Caroline, Thanks for that. I've just read it & as you say it does look hopeful. I take the Mail but obviously missed this article so it pays to keep using this site. GDNF research sounds promising in several forms to treat PD.

It is still drug related control and not a cure as stated in the newspaper headline.
unfortunately with any drug there is bound to be side effects.
This treatment it appears has only been tried on a few people.
I think one has to see five years or more down the line to see the outcome.
but if it relieves certain cases all well and good.

I agree....more drugs. This may be fine for persons who have systems that do not have too many "reactions" to drugs....Unfortunately,(for me anyways), my system reacts to just about "everything" and "anything"....it's very trying and depressing at times.....Sorry to sound "unappreciative".....I guess a cure has to start with "experimentation", and I'm just a little "envious" of people with "healthy genes" at the moment......I'm happy if it helps some of my fellow PWP's.

Thanks for posting this. I don't really follow the research about new treatments as there have been so many false dawns, but it is good to be reminded that there are some things happening out there wh
ich are having positive effects. Hope is a great gift and is something we all need - having just tried apomorphine and found that it hasn't worked for me, hope is currently in short supply, so thanks again.

I'm still confused. Is it the loss of dopamine producing cells or dopamine receptor cells that have died off? Hopefully we learn from all these "treatments".
